Kristan Altimus

I am an artist and academic who has a deep love of nature. As a life long learner, education along with the lived experience has always been a motivating force in my life.

I hold a Doctorate of Arts in Ecopsychology and Environmental Humanities from Viridis Graduate Institute; M.A. in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University, Santa Barbara; B.F.A. in Art History and Photography from the University of Colorado, Boulder.

I was immediately drawn to the alluring power of the gongs upon hearing them ten years ago, when I was initiated into my first sound healing, in the form of a gongbath. In 2010, I became a Gong Master under the tutelage Don Conreaux. Don revealed to me that one needs to be constantly working the gong within oneself; in other words, one must become a vessel for the vibrations like a gong. When a person integrates body, mind and sound, there is the potential for the soul to awaken and to arrive at a more complete model of health.

Currently, I am studying to be a Sound Healer with the Sound Healers Association founded by Jonathan Goldman. I have also studied with renowned gong teacher Mehtab Benton, Fabien Mamen at the Academy of Sound Healing, Thomas Moore, author of Care of the Soul, Soul Mates and Dark Nights of the Soul and at Pacifica Graduate Institute in the Somatic Depth Psychology program.

I have an ongoing realtionship with my art/creative mentors: Pat B. Allen, founder of the Open Studio Process and author of Art as a Way of Knowing and Art as a Spiritual Path; artist and author Joan Hanley, Art and Yoga; and Maureen Murdock, author of the Heroine's Journey and Unreliable Truth

Ojai has been my natural home for the past 18 years. You can view my photography and artwork on my personal website ~
